Phase III – compressors on TCP2

person by Harald Tønnesen, Norwegian Petroleum Museum
The pressure in the Frigg reservoir declined as the gas was produced. Since the British Gas Corporation required deliveries at a constant pressure, equipment had to be installed on Frigg to achieve this in the pipeline.

That represented phase III in the field’s development. Three compressors – one for each process train – as well as power generators and process control modules were installed on treatment compression platform 2 (TCP2). Intended to serve both treatment platforms (TP1 and TCP2), the compressors were installed between the separators and dewatering units on TCP2.

The compressor and process control modules were fabricated in Orkanger, utilities at Nymo in Grimstad and the modules for two turbine-driven generators in Kristiansand. During installation work, TCP2 was shut down for a long period. The first compressor became operational on 24 September 1981 and the third on 20 November 1981.
